About the Ingredients:

CreaPure® - Creatine is a naturally occurring nitrogenous compound found in the human body. It is stored primarily in skeletal muscle in the form of phosphocreatine [phosphorylated creatine] and free creatine. Phosphocreatine aids in the production of energy for the body, particularly high-intensity, short-duration exercise of anaerobic nature such as weightlifting or sprinting. Exercise of this nature relies largely on the phosphagen energy system (also known as the ATP-PC system). Compared the other energy systems (i.e. anaerobic glycolysis, aerobic glycolysis, beta-oxidation), the ATP-PC system produces energy (ATP) at the fastest rate. When PCr stores become depleted, the ability to maintain maximum-effort ceases and ATP is produced at a slower rate via other metabolic pathways (i.e. anaerobic glycolysis) depending on the nature of exercise. Therefore, increasing intramuscular PCr stores via creatine supplementation is conducive to maintaining ATP turnover rates during exercise that require maximal muscular strength or power.

Creatine monohydrate optimizes resistance-training adaptations via augmentation of satellite cell proliferation and increased myonuclei within skeletal muscle fibers, both translating to enhanced muscle hypertrophy.

BetaPower® - Betaine, chemically known as 2-(Trimethylammonio) ethanoic acid, hydroxide, inner salt, is isolated from sugar beets. Betaine is as an osmolyte and methyl donor (transmethylation). As an osmolyte, betaine protects cells, proteins, and enzymes from environmental stress (e.g. dehydration, free radicals). As a methyl donor, betaine participates in the methionine cycle occurring in the liver and kidneys. PeakATP® - Adenosine-5’-triphosphate (ATP) represents cellular energy in the human body. Orally ingested ATP may be metabolically available to tissues and may influence adenine nucleotide metabolism during exercise. This notion has been supported in research with human subjects in a fasted state supplementing with PeakATP®, demonstrated anti-catabolic effects. Subjects also demonstrated increased fatigue resistance with improved exercise performance when nearing fatigue. Research has shown PeakATP® to double the effects of resistance training alone, resulting in a 100% increase in lean mass, 147% increase in total body strength, and 30% increase in power compared to a placebo.

CarnoSynSR® - Beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid. Upon entering the muscle cell, beta-alanine is responsible for carnosine synthesis as the rate-limiting substrate. Carnosine is a dipeptide amino acid consisting of histidine and beta-alanine. Carnosine is found in mainly in type II fast-twitch muscle fibers. Type II fibers are known for efficiently undertaking anaerobic tasks and, subsequently, experience immense drops in pH from lactic acid accumulation as a result of glycolytic pathways. A higher intramuscular level of carnosine is associated with an enhanced capacity to buffer hydrogen ions, thus, reducing the potentially inhibiting decrease in pH. Beta-alanine supplementation has shown to effectively delay fatigue by buffering hydrogen ions produced with lactic acid accumulation resultant of high intensity exercise. L-Citrulline malate is an amino acid present in the body. It is a potent endogenous precursor of the amino acid, L-arginine. Arginine is a substrate for nitric oxide (NO) synthesis. Citrulline is effectively recycled via the L-citrulline NO cycle to L-arginine and plays an important role in the metabolism and regulation of NO. Citrulline has demonstrated increases in arginine greater than oral consumption of arginine due to its high absorption capacity. Taurine, a sulfur-containing beta-amino acid synthesized by the human body, is naturally occurring in a variety of foods. obtained largely from diet. Glutamine, an amino acid, is an important substrate that fuels the immune system. Intense and/or long duration exercise decreases glutamine concentrations. This results in reduced immune system efficiency. Glutamine supplementation protects from exercise-induced immune system impairment. Although it is the most abundant amino acid in the body, glutamine in the body is utilized rapidly. Glutamine is an intermediate metabolite in the Krebs cycle, contributing to gluconeogenesis by saving phosphocreatine (CP) deposits and glycogen in muscle fibers, particularly type I (aerobic) fibers. This results in an increased tolerance to exercise.

Also recognized for its gastroprotective effects, glutamine supplementation promotes the health of the gastric and intestinal mucosa and is a primary energy source for lymphocytes. Glutamine can reduce ammonia production associated with H. pylori and protect against and treat peptic ulcers, which attempt to deplete glutamine levels. Creatine monohydrate is the most extensively studied form of creatine. One of the most consumed dietary supplements, a number of studies have demonstrated increases in phosphocreatine stores following both acute and chronic consumption of creatine monohydrate. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] Increases in phosphocreatine via creatine monohydrate supplementation has demonstrated significant increases in strength performance. [7] [8]

Research has shown creatine monohydrate intake to significantly increase myonuclei concentration per muscle fiber and amplify satellite cell count greater than resistance training alone. [9] Creatine monohydrate consumption is complementary to the hypertrophic effects of resistance training, enhancing increasing muscle fiber size. In addition, creatine monohydrate supplementation, in combination with heavy resistance training, has also demonstrated significant enhancements in myosin heavy chain protein synthesis. [10]

Long term research examining the daily, low-dose consumption of creatine observed successful increases in phosphocreatine stores and enhanced fatigue resistance without weight gain observed with higher doses of creatine and creatine loading. The performance enhancements result in enhanced body composition as training parameters are improved. Eight weeks of beta-alanine has demonstrated noteworthy increases in lean muscle mass. [35] Creatine in combination with beta-alanine resulted in a greater benefit on strength performance when compared to creatine alone. [36]

A number of studies have demonstrated the immediate effect of citrulline malate on exercise performance, benefiting power and strength for resistance exercise and athletic performance including tennis.[37] [38] [39] [40] Research has also shown citrulline malate to reduce muscle soreness, providing a synergistic effect in conjunction with taurine as muscle damage and muscle soreness are reduced. [37] Citrulline malate has also shown to benefit endurance exercise performance, improving long-distance cycling performance times while also reducing subjective feelings of fatigue.

A precursor to L-arginine, citrulline mallate intake has demonstrated increases in arginine levels.[41] Increases in plasma arginine promotes nitric oxide synthesis, which translates to increased vasodilation. Working synergistically with beta-alanine, creatine monohydrate, PeakATP®, citrulline malate, and glutamine, L-ornithine has demonstrated significant reductions in feelings of fatigue during both prolonged and intermittent, high-intensity exercise bouts. Research has found ornithine intake to increase fatty acid metabolism and ammonia buffering while promoting both muscular endurance and anaerobic performance. [43] [44] Ornithine has also shown to contribute to increases in growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels, promoting anabolism. [45]

Supplementation with SPECTRA™ resulted in statistically significant long-term inhibition of mitochondrial and cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation by as much as 17% as well as 3.5-times inhibition in extracellular nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) system-dependent generation of O2. Furthermore, this study found antioxidant-rich SPECTRA™ to exhibit anti-inflammatory properties. [46]

Research has demonstrated the antioxidant properties of taurine via reduction in exercise-induced oxidative stress and subsequent exercise performance enhancement in human subjects. [47] [48] When young adults were assigned to seven weeks of taurine supplementation has demonstrated, their body weight and triacylglycerol levels reduced significantly compared to placebo. The authors of the study suggest consistent taurine supplementation can have benefits on lipid metabolism and prevention of cardiovascular disease. [49]

Additional research has found taurine intake to increase strength gains from exercise while decreasing muscle soreness, markers of muscle damage, and oxidative stress. [50] [51] Taurine’s antioxidant properties complement those of creatine and Spectra™ with its ergogenic benefits complementing those of beta-alanine, creatine monohydrate, PeakATP®, citrulline malate, glutamine, and L-ornithine.

Taurine has been recognized for its neuroprotective effects via its interaction with the GABAergic system and cognitive enhancing effects. Research has shown taurine intake to improve mental performance and mood. [52] [53]

Short-term tyrosine administration has demonstrated acute protective effects on cognitive function (e.g. working memory, mood, psychomotor tasks [marksmanship]) in the presence of physical stress/stressors. [64] [65] Research also suggests that with more undamaged tissue via LCLT intake comes a greater potential of anabolism as an increased number of receptors remain intact for hormonal interactions. [64] LCLT has been researched for its tolerability and safety, demonstrating no adverse effects on metabolic and hematological safety variables. [66]
