Sports is an umbrella term for any kind of event that entails physical exertion or competition. There can be games, competitions, tournaments, athletic meets, school games, individual sports activities, and more. A sports story is a fictional film, television show, book, or game which revolves around a sport or a topic of interest to the general public. The term comes from the fact that most sports stories involve some type of physical activity, usually competitive, but not always. A sports movie is also a film genre which makes use of sports as the main theme of the story. It’s a fictional production where a sports event, player, team, or fan of a given sport are heavily involved, and that often rely on sports to an extent for their main plot inspiration or resolution.
Some examples of fictional sports stories include the following: “X-Men” ( Wolverine and the X-Men, specifically), “The Perfect Storm” (aired on ABC), “Mortal Coil” (starring Anne Hathaway and Kurt Russell), “Mani Ki Rescue” (starring miscredited Michael Rapaport), “Laguna Beach: The People v. o. J. Man” (aired on MTV), “The Replacements” (starring Emmit Kelly, Dan Butler, and John Bon Jovi), “The Game” (starring David Hasselhoff and Tommy Lee), “The Blind Side” ( starring Ben Stiller and Jason Lee), “Catch Me If You Can” ( starring Meg Ryan and Tim Burton), and “The Thin Red Line” (starring Jack Nicholson and Steven Segal). Although not exactly a sports story, many people make sports movies to either honor their favorite sports or as a fun and entertaining genre to watch. Movies like “SInger” (starring Michael Caine), “Million Dollar Baby” ( starring Meryl Streep and Bill Murray), “The Pursuit of Happyness” (starring George Clooney), and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” (with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire) are all examples of how a movie can take its concept and turn it into a work of art, whether that art comes in the form of a screenplay, song, or film itself. This is perhaps one of the most important things to remember when choosing a movie from a list of possibilities.
Movies in the last decade that have specifically been made to commemorate some form of athlete or sport include “icles,” “rowdy boys,” “the run” (starring Denzel Washington), and “nce exactly why.” Each of these films has particular aspects that are common among its main characters (i.e., an All-Star Game, a championship race, etc.) and each of them has a particular aesthetic quality to it. As such, it should be relatively easy to select a movie from the list above that will fit your tastes and is especially popular among the people in your neighborhood!
