The Definition of Health
The term health is often used to describe a wide range of resources that contribute to the quality of life. The WHO’s definition of health was published in 1948, and originally focused on the absence of disease. However, recent research has questioned whether this is still the best way to define health. Huber et al. argue that the WHO’s current definition is no longer fit for purpose, as it fails to take into account chronic illnesses and disabilities, and may contribute to our over-medicalisation of society.
