What Is Good Health?

According to the World Health Organization, “health is a state of full life-health, physical and mental well-being and not just the absence of illness and infirmity”. A wide variety of definitions are used over time for different purposes. In most instances, it has been defined as a condition that permits the individual to enjoy life to the fullest. Many people today live unhealthy lives and, due to this, many suffer from a lack of self-confidence and low self esteem.

A good definition of health would then be the ability to enjoy a full range of life, without suffering from any disease or disability. It may also be viewed as a state in which physical activities are carried out in a healthy manner, without pain, uneasiness or restrictions. A few other criteria that a good definition may include are: a capacity for getting and maintaining appropriate relationships with others; a capacity for having and sustaining personal relationships; and a capacity for self-care and for healthy recreation. Other criteria that may be used to establish the existence of a state of health include a history of recurrent childhood infections and cancer, and a lack of serious genetic disorders or malformations. These may be considered as indicators of good health.

Most of the disorders and diseases are known to be a result of mental health conditions such as anxiety and stress, depression and post traumatic stress. Good physical health can be obtained through a combination of proper diet, regular exercise, relaxation techniques, and a good state of mind. There are various types of health conditions that can cause limitations to one’s activities or affect their capacity to think and perform certain tasks. Some of these are heart diseases, diabetes, lung diseases, and kidney diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, and other physical disorders.
