The Concept of Good Health and a Healthy Body

Health, as defined by the World Health Organization, is “an environment where the physical, mental and emotional well-being of humans is maintained through a comprehensive system of resources designed to improve health and prevent disease.” A number of definitions have also been applied for various purposes over the years. The definition of health in the United States has long been thought to be inclusive of aspects of diet and exercise, and measures of prevention, treatment and management of major illness.

A good health implies physical well-being that is obtained without limitation. It also implies psychological well-being, which is obtained by people through their capacity to enjoy their relationships, work, school or other activities. For some, good health is primarily associated with having a well-balanced diet and having a regular physical activity. Other people consider healthy physical and mental wellness to be interdependent, meaning that one cannot be considered healthy unless the other is also healthy.

The goal of preventive health care is to try to keep people in good physical fitness. Preventive medicine seeks to stop diseases before they start. It is through research and study that medical professionals are able to understand the causes of diseases and to develop prevention methods. Prevention of diseases means being able to avoid physical ailments and illness.
